Adjustments and Manipulation

chiropractic adjustment

Nowadays everyone from Medical Doctors, Physical Therapists, and Massage Therapists are lining up to learn and utilize the benefits of chiropractic. The benefits of these treatments have started to become noticed by everyone in the medical community.  A chiropractic adjustment, also known as chiropractic manipulation, manual manipulation, or spinal manipulation, is the primary chiropractic treatment method for back pain.

Spinal manipulation is relieves pressure on joints, reduces inflammation, and improves nerve function. It has been a trusted form of treatment since the ancient Greek Hippocrates documented manipulative techniques in his writings back in 1500 B.C. Today, spinal manipulation is used to treat conditions such as allergies, menstrual cramps and headaches.

How Does Spinal Manipulation Work?

There are well over 100 types of adjustment techniques used by chiropractors throughout the world. Some practitioners may use force and twisting, while other techniques are more gentle. Regardless of how they are performed, these techniques are intended to restore or enhance joint function with the objectives of reducing pain and resolving joint inflammation.

Think of the example of a runner's high. When we move joints properly it causes massive relaxation in the body. This is achieved through something called a mechanoreceptor. If proper joint function is achieved in the body it causes the body to relax, function better, and feel better. Everyone knows that digestion works better when you are relaxed. If the nerves are working right in the body it causes the body to relax and in effect increases the function of digestion as well as other benefits.  Many of our patients report getting a high feeling from the very first adjustment and getting into states of euphoria after longer term treatments. This is the similar effect as a runner's high and we believe a proper adjustment should generate a sense of well being and euphoria if it is performed correctly. Most of our patients get adjustments on an on going because of the euphoric sense of relaxation that is maintained from our specialized adjustments.  If the muscles are more and more relaxed then it also increases blood flow, and healing. This is another aspect of our adjustments that produce euphoria. It is amazing to feel the sense of massive relaxation that our adjustments and treatments produce.

When vertebrae shift out of place, there is an overall systemic response from the muscular system to the central nervous system. Without proper alignment and flow, our nerves, our immune system, and our minds cannot function at their highest peak.

Overall, spinal adjustments and manipulations are an excellent way to keep the body functioning at its highest level without any discomfort. When the body is adequately aligned, it becomes able to respond and perform as it was built to do.
